Food Hospital - Artificial Sweetners

Artificial sweeteners replicate sugar in taste with less food energy than sugar. They are made with synthetic products and are compounds with many more times the amount of sweetness of sucrose. To achieve the same intensity of sweetness as normal sugar much less is needed so sweeteners come as small pill like shapes. “Diet” and “Light” foods and drinks use sweeteners. They are used most often by people trying to lose weight, with Diabetes or for dental care as they have less harmful effects on teeth than sugar. Sugar substitutes are commonly used in processed food.
