Food Hospital - No MSG Diet
MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a naturally occurring amino acid that is often used as a food additive due to its ability to enhance the savoury ‘umami’ flavour of certain foods. A ‘no MSG’ diet avoids foods containing monosodium glutamate.
MSG can commonly be found in foods such as soups, sauces, canned vegetables and processed foods. It is particularly common in Chinese food.
MSG is also found in many low-salt products as the use of this additive retains the flavour of the food even when salt content is significantly reduced.
